As a writer I know the importance of brainstorming - hello?! But it never ceases to amaze me the capacity of ideas we hold within us when start to scratch the surface.
I've just had to complete an assignment for a course I'm doing that involved brainstorming different ways to deliver the same thing - interesting I thought, definitely something I'm into. However, once I got going, even I was surprised to find so many new ideas. When I thought I'd exhausted my imagination (and brain)I went to put a load of washing on and - hey presto - another wave began.
Being open to new ideas is so important! Try not to get completely besotted by your work that you are afraid to change it. I ended up coming up with a far better scene than I'd previously written, and I have to say I was very happy with the old one. Had this not come up I wonder if I'd have even given it a second glance. Which just showed me to brainstorm every idea, so you know you've got the best one you can possibly find. Even then though, down the track, you or someone else may decide that writing it another way would work even better. Be open to that. Yes, it's your baby but ultimately the object is to send it out into the world in the best shape possible and that involves - Letting Go!!
Happy writing ;)
