Does this look like a lonely stray to you? The way we see something will send us down a particular road, one of the ways I try to see different sides to things, that will inevitably bring out more ideas, is to change the 'pace' at which I see them.
Rather than slowly absorbing this, and therefore being taken down the sombre path, look at it as if you were racing up to it at a hundred miles and hour. Like you're in a car and it is all happening too fast to process. How does that change what you see?
Look at it through the dogs eyes, that changes things again, doesn't it.
Perspective. That is a word you need to get familiar with as a writer. Always look for another perspective, and keep looking.
